Sony Ericsson Spiro: The Latest from Sony Ericsson

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Mobile phone companies have been busy designing and releasing handsets that would bring the mobile phone industry to the next level. Although most of these companies are manufacturing high end smartphones that come with touch screens, Sony Ericsson opted to produce a new slider handset where they incorporated the well-known Walkman technology.

Overview

The Sony Ericsson Spiro is a pocket friendly, compact and lightweight mobile phone. It has dimensions of 92 x 48 x 16.8 mm and weighs only 90 grams. The phone is available in different colors such as contrast black, sunset pink, spring green and stealth black. This makes the phone an attractive piece to fashion conscious mobile phone users.

The phone has 2.2 inch TFT screen that has resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. The screen can display up to 256K colors. This makes the phone ideal for viewing images since it provides clarity and details to images.

The phone can store up to 2000 entries in its internal phonebook. An amazing feature of the phone is the Photocall. This allows the phone to assign a photo to each contact. The photo is then displayed each time the contact calls the mobile phone user. The MP3 files in the phone can also be used as ringtones. Apart from the speakerphone system, the phone also comes with a 3.5 mm audio jack. This is for hands free communication, as well as for tuning in to audio files.

The 5 MB internal memory of this handset is lower than most phones in the market. The memory, however, can be expanded to 16 GB through microSD since the phone comes with a card slot. This gives users more than enough storage capacity for files such as audio tracks and video clips.

Connectivity

The phone supports Class 10 EDGE and GPRS. These features are packet-switching technologies that enable users to transfer data through cellular networks. It can also be used for internet browsing, MMS and data communications. The Bluetooth v2.1 technology lets the phone connect with other mobile handsets for data communication purposes such as sharing of contact information and media files.

The microUSB of the phone allows cabled connections to gadgets and computers in order to carry out tasks such as backing up of contact information and transferring of media files.

Other Features

The camera has 2-megapixel digital camera with resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels. Although the camera does not come with exceptional features, it can be used for recording videos.

This handset may be centered on the Walkman technology but it also provides the users with applications for social networks. The phone has applications intended for access to sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Apart from these social networking sites, users can contact their friends and family via standard means of messaging – SMS, MMS, Email, Push Email and IM.

Overall the Sony Ericsson Spiro may not be a high end smartphone but it still has its functionality and simplicity to boast about. What’s more is that it may be sold at a price that’s more affordable than the other high end phones. You can find the latest Sony Ericsson Spiro deals at Moby1.
